Speaker: Karen M. Kedrowski
Part of the America at 250 lecture series.
The role of women is sometimes minimized or overlooked in histories of the founding of the United States. This presentation will tell the stories of some of the women – including Abigail Adams, Mercy Otis Warren, Phillis Wheatley, and Mary Wollstonecraft – who played crucial roles in the politics, economics, and culture of the time, as well as provided direct support for the war effort during the American Revolution.
Karen M. Kedrowski is the director of the Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics, co-director of the Center for Cyclone Civics, and a professor of political science at Iowa State University. Her primary research areas are gender and politics in the U.S. and civic engagement, and she has taught courses in women and politics, American government, media and politics, and public policy.
The event is co-sponsored by the Center for Cyclone Civics, Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics, Department of Political Science, Department of History, and Committee on Lectures (funded by Student Government).
